Chilled Status was engaged by the store owner after a significant increase in refrigerant management (RM) costs caused by major refrigerant leaks in the freezer storeroom. Following a detailed site inspection, our project manager identified that the existing equipment was in poor condition and over 15 years old, making it inefficient and unreliable.
With Foodstuffs New Zealand moving towards low-GWP refrigerants, the ideal solution was to upgrade the freezer system to a CO₂ (R744) transcritical refrigeration plant. The new transcritical system was designed to serve both the main freezer and the underfloor glycol heating system, improving efficiency, reliability, and environmental performance.
To maximise performance and visibility, we implemented an RDM (Resource Data Management) control system to monitor temperatures, energy consumption, and floor temperatures in real time, giving the store better control, compliance, and operational insight.
This project involved the full design, build, and installation by our highly skilled CO₂ engineering team, delivering a modern, future-proof refrigeration solution for the site.
